RULO WALLA WALLA VALLEY CHARDONNAY 2010
Details
Appellation: Walla Walla Valley
Variety: 100% Chardonnay
Vineyards
This wine is a blend of two chardonnay vineyards, Birch Creek and Ausydna (planted in 2008 in 'the rocks' of the ancient Walla Walla Riverbed).
Tasting Notes
Light golden color. Very forward nose of honeycomb/beeswax, apricot and nectarine with a rich barrel fermented oak overlay.
Good acid in the mouth keeps the richness from barrel fermentation and malo-lactic fermentation in check. Tropical fruit flavors from Birch Creek vineyard with mineral and stone fruits from Ausydna vineyard give this wine a beautiful mid-palate and finish.
The Birch Creek barrels were put through malo-lactic fermentation while the Ausydna barrels were not. A mix of new and more neutral French oak barrels were used and the wine was left sur lies for ten months before bottling.

Tasting Notes
Light straw in color. Aromas of saline sea breeze, minerals and hints of melon in the nose. Still a nice yeasty element in the nose as well.
A wall of minerals and stone fruits engage your palate on entry. Great viscosity and length for a wine of such high acid and low pH.
Since 2006, we have been fermenting this vineyard in stainless steel barrels because we feel some elements of Sundance vineyard are best expressed without oak overlays. This is the closest thing to Chablis around.

Tasting Notes
Very light straw with green hue in color. Elements of citrus rind and mint mixed with oyster shell and stone minerality. Very pointed and powerful. A brisk entry of lemongrass, melon and the classic Sundance Vineyard Lucky Stripe lemon/lime chewing gum. Focused acids, yet for a wine this chiseled, the viscosity is surprisingly rich. The finish comes full circle with citrus fruits and wet stone. We think this tastes as closely to a Chablis as any domestic wine we've tasted.

Winemaking

Tasting Notes
In the glass, we love the faint green hue typical of the varietal. The nose has a piercing grapefruit/gooseberry aroma with a hint of green herb and "pipi du chat". The mouth is strikingly brisk with crisp citrus notes and screaming acid.

Tasting Notes
Fermented in stainless steel uprights as well as stainless barrels, our intent was to make a crisp version of Viognier highlighting flavors of pear, apple and stone fruits. We do not allow this wine to undergo a malo-lactic fermentation in order to preserve the wines acidic backbone. It is left on the lees until we bottle in the early spring, giving the wine just a little creamy, nutty character.

A blend of Cabernet from Red Mountain and Horse Heaven Hills and Syrah from Red Mountain.
Both the cab and syrah saw 26 months in French oak, approximately 50% of which was new. This wine was neither fined nor filtered.
Deep red in color. The wine has a smoky, oaky nose with overtones of charcoal, graphite, cured meats. Hints of blueberry, pomegranate and cherry round out this nose.
